マイクロ (10⁻⁶) ⇄ ナノ (10⁻⁹) 2025
(micro (10⁻ ⁶) ⇄ nano (10⁻ ⁹)) 2025

マイクロ (10⁻⁶) ⇄ ナノ (10⁻⁹) is an audiovisual work that traverses the fragile passage between the microscopic and nanoscopic scales, created for the Portuguese Pavilion in Osaka at the World Expo 2025. Combining scientific observations from the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) with immersive soundscapes and abstract imagery, the work explores the thresholds between visibility and invisibility. Between 10⁻⁶ and 10⁻⁹ emerges not only a shift in scale, but a passage into other ways of sensing: mathematics dissolves into matter, matter fades into abstraction, and the immeasurable reveals itself as new matter. Within this interval, dimensions collapse inward, and yet imagination expands outward. The piece reflects the ongoing artistic research of João Martinho Moura, INL member, at the intersection of science, technology, and art on the submicron scale.

Portuguese media artist and researcher Moura has spent two decades presenting his work in over 20 countries, pushing the boundaries of media and interactive art. His collaboration with INL began in 2016 through the European Commission’s artistic programs. In 2021, he joined the Technology Engineering Group at INL, contributing to projects in visualization, computer vision, virtual and augmented reality, digital media, and artificial intelligence.
